Ridiculous! Indefensible! Horrible! After a painful decision to provide bailout money to insurance giant AIG, Congress was humiliated by AIG’s decision to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses to executives. Taxpayers were furious that the money, intended to save AIG and help the economy, went into employee’s private pockets. The bonuses were seen as rewarding incompetence.
