By February 2009, Twitter was ranked the third most popular social networking site and dubbed the Internet’s equivalent of text messaging. The Web site, only three years old, became a media and pop culture phenomenon. Magazines quoted celebrities’ Twitter updates, and those updates, called tweets, were even used to break news. The 140 character limit and continuous updating fit with our love of new and simple technology, and cartoonists fell for the site’s cute little blue spokesbird.
