Chapter . Senator Franken
Former Saturday Night Live writer and political satirist Al Franken became the junior United States Senator from Minnesota in June after a long battle with former Senator Norm Coleman. Less then 300 votes separated the candidates; after a recount, court hearings, disputed absentee ballots and an appeal, Franken came out the winner.
Cartoonists, along with the rest of the country, were disappointed every time the new Senator took to the mic in Congress and didn’t make a joke.
