BIM Adoption and Maturity Levels

Introduction

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) formed a Working Party in 2010 to advise the government as the construction client on national policy for the transitioning to BIM. The Working Party’s BIM Strategy Paper presented the technology adoption as maturing through distinct phases, called BIM Maturity Levels. This chapter explains these levels in the practical terms of the main collaborative processes of each for an organisation. It concludes with a section on setting goals and objectives for BIM adoption.
