SMARTPHONES AND PDAs

Wi-Fi and other broadband wireless networks are not limited to full-size computers running full-size operating systems. Palms, BlackBerries, Pocket PCs, iPhones, and other handheld personal digital assistants (PDAs) can all use wireless links to synchronize data with other computers, send and receive email, and download data from the Internet. This new category of hybrid devices automatically switches between relatively slow EDGE or EV-DO networks with wide coverage areas to much faster Wi-Fi networks whenever it's possible to do so.
