This essay began as a talk, a “connection,” I gave at the international conference of the Association for Business Communication (ABC) in 2019, to bring The Business Communication Profession, then a book-in-progress, into the organization’s larger conversations about the discipline’s future and the ways to mentor the next generation of teacher-scholars. Talk about these challenges filled the halls and the board meeting I participated in earlier that week (along with complaints between sessions that there was nothing but healthy food to snack on like beet smoothies and raw vegetables). ...
