Film Exhibition, Retail, and Consumption

 

Exhibition is the point of purchase for a movie, when consumers will pay for and view a film. Certain windows require direct transactions, such as a visit to a movie theater, PPV and internet downloads, whereas other consumption is part of a subscription like HBO, or an OTT service like Netflix; some are ad-supported, like free television.

The role of the distributor is to generate availability for a movie to consumers in as many media formats (windows), and territories for as long as possible.
