The Authors

David G. Altman is executive vice president of research, innovation, and product development at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina. Previously he was professor of public health sciences and pediatrics at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has served as national program director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Substance Abuse Policy Research Program, a $66 million, investigator-initiated research initiative, and as co-national program director of the RWJF Ladder to Leadership Program, a $4 million leadership development program for nonprofit leaders in health and health care. Altman has published a hundred journal articles, book chapters, and books. He is a fellow of three divisions of the American Psychological Association and the Society of Behavioral Medicine. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in social ecology from the University of California, Irvine, and his B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Katherine Colarelli Beatty is director of global portfolio management at the Center for Creative Leadership in Colorado Springs. In addition to working with clients, Beatty is responsible for ensuring that the Center's portfolio of programs, products, and services is most relevant to clients across the globe.
