15Getting the Full Picture
So far on our journey together, I've shared my experiences as a dyslexic woman of Chinese heritage, a mother and daughter, and CEO. We've read about the personal and professional experiences of CEOs as they focus and refocus their own kaleidoscopes, and how they move the DIAL to make the workplace a more equal and equitable place for all.
We've looked at the majority of the facets that my team at DIAL Global believe are at the heart of true inclusivity. But there are a couple of others that are key to note.
Socio-Economic Status
One of the facets of inclusion that is often overlooked is that of financial and economic inclusion.
We've been impressed with the steps taken by organisations in the UK and America to understand and fight against exclusion on economic grounds. We've seen improvement in both nations while carrying out our diversity review. Indeed, in the US, social mobility has quickly become the newest focus of many companies within our US network. Understanding that a focus on social mobility can unlock disadvantages for other intersectional facets such as ethnicity, disability, and gender, has galvanised companies to take a closer look, particularly given the current economic crisis.
As such, organisations such as Barclays are now including social mobility as a key strategic pillar for Diversity and Inclusion, meaning funds and resources are available to drive meaningful change.
