The recruitment consultant puzzled over her client’s hesitation to accept the two scientifically trained candidates just interviewed. Each matched the search criteria, so why was the client hesitating? ‘I just don’t feel comfortable appointing either of them,’ she explained apologetically, ‘they both have the personality of a concrete slab.’

The search agent was even more confused. ‘But personality was never mentioned in the search criteria, we just thought they had to be fully qualified and fit in with your culture.’

The client nodded, ‘I know, but they must at least be persuasive in this job, otherwise they will be stuck in the lab for the next 10 years. I can’t see either of those two getting on well ...
