I recently read that Einstein had a reported habit of taking time out to daydream and conduct thought experiments, perhaps starting as a teenager. I wanted to share this story on social media as a way of promoting time out to create thinking space.

Naturally, this made me want to find an image of a teenage Einstein daydreaming. But after a few minutes with Google Image, it became very clear that the only available photos of Einstein were from his later years.

So, I went to Midjourney, an image‐generating AI tool, and prompted it with ‘/imagine 16‐year‐old Einstein daydreaming’. It did not disappoint. A young man with wavy and unruly hair, gazing at the viewer with a pensive expression. Just lovely! So I used it on a social media post, citing of course that the image was created by Midjourney.

You may have noticed above that the syntax for giving Midjourney prompts is a slash (/) and the word ‘imagine’, then the description of what you are after. This is because the Midjourney sits with the Discord application.

If you are unfamiliar with Discord (as I was), this can make things a bit complicated and challenging. Other image‐generating apps are much easier to use.
