GUI—Swing and MVC

In Chapters 1719 we have seen how to develop GUI applications. In these chapters the GUI applications have been developed using the AWT components. The number of readilly available components in AWT are very limited. For developing GUI applications in Java we can use the Swing components. Initially Swing was a separate project and the components of Swing were not part of JDK. The Swing components were made available in Java from Java 1.2 onwards. The base package for Swing is javax.swing. Prior to Java 1.2, the components of Swing were available in a separate jar file and the basic package was com.sun.swing.
