Coaching assignment: structure and process

This chapter offers a supporting structure for a coaching assignment. By an assignment I mean a series of coaching sessions, to work on agreed topics and themes. For example, six sessions over a period of 10 months, perhaps to help the coachee realise a goal or focus generally on their personal development.

As a coach, when you think in terms of an overall assignment, you are able to plan and structure your involvement, which helps you to:

  • create the foundation for an effective coaching experience for your coachee
  • establish principles of success: e.g. ‘Here’s how we will work together’
  • explain and predict costs for potential clients
