Relationships come in all shapes and sizes. Many are transactional, based on getting work done or accomplishing a specific task, while others are personal.

Communication changes based on the level of the relationship, whether shallow or deep. However, there is still a Communication Code that will unlock every person you meet with.

When two people meet, a specific expectation or agenda is usually tied to the meeting.

Typically, one person is setting the meeting, and it generally is that person that sets the agenda—at least in their mind. The other person may be clueless about what the other person is thinking or wanting. They may also be distracted from the meeting beforehand, or the extensive list of tasks might be overwhelming their minds.

The deeper the relationship, the deeper the expectation. Over time, if expectations are not met, bitterness will grow and undermine the relational dynamics between the two.

In this chapter we will give you the practical cipher of the five code words that can unlock a relationship and allow communication to flow.
