When On-Line Editing first appeared in the early 1980s, journalism and journalism education were experiencing the first wave of the digital revolution. The book was designed to help students prepare themselves for editing by understanding and using the new tools that would be available to them. We tried to anticipate the technological developments that would take place.

Now, almost twenty years later, many of the hardware and software questions involving the editing process have been settled.
