Locations is the one department on a project requiring people with tactful personalities. Good location people are diplomats, able to communicate effectively with nonproduction people. This ability is invaluable when working on a show. The location person has to get someone to let a crew of fifty or more people onto a property, carrying all kinds of equipment, for ten to twelve hours per day. A good location person will know how to present this situation and maintain good relations with the owner. A bad location person could lose a location entirely, leaving you to scramble for a place to shoot.
