Objects in the 3D Viewport Editor are the Models and Characters you create as components of a Scene. They also include the Lights that illuminate the Scene and Cameras which capture that part of a Scene you wish to Render. In fact, pretty much everything entered in a Scene is considered an Object in Blender.
