Appendix A Glossary of Video Terms
A-roll Video intended for both visuals and audio in a production. Often, A-roll material contains the “main story” and provides audio even when the audience is seeing B-roll material.
AC Alternating current; commonly available electrical power in the United States.
animatics Filmed or taped versions of storyboard drawings or rough animated versions of what a final video will look like.
aperture The opening of a diaphragm that controls amount of light admitted through the lens.
B-roll Alternate or supplementary video footage; B-roll is usually cut in to demonstrate what the A-roll is explaining or narrating.
boom A pole carrying an overhead microphone projected over the set.
