Babbitt, Milton (b. 1916) American composer who is a pioneer in electronic and serial music. He studied with Roger Sessions in the late 1930s and was on the music faculty at both Princeton University and the Julliard School. He composed what were considered the earliest examples of total serialism. See serial music.
