Glossary
ambience (or ambient sound) The naturally occurring sounds of an environment.
blocking The dynamic and sometimes changing arrangement and relationship of actors and camera to the environment and each other during a scene.
boom The long pole that ends in a microphone and allows for microphone placement close to the action without being visible in the frame. The word also applies to the person who holds this pole, though when this is the case, “boom” is short for “boom operator.”
camera original Filmstock or videotape that has actually run through the camera. If you’re shooting negative film, your negative would be the camera original. If you’re shooting videotape and then putting it in your VCR to watch, you’re watching the ...
