|DAY 224||PROFILES IN ART|
VIVA LA VIDA!
“I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best.”
If ever an artist possessed the ability to chronicle her life on canvas, it was Frida Kahlo. Colorful, gripping, and psychologically expressive, Kahlo’s art was a cathartic means for her to express her deep emotional anguish over the traumatic events that shaped her life. Among them, a childhood attack of disabling polio, a tragic accident that left her in lifelong pain and affected her ability to have children, and a distressing relationship with husband and fellow artist Diego Rivera.
