Gender is defined both biologically, via the anatomy, or socially, through a complex web of ideas about how a person should think, behave, and interact due to biological function. Attitudes about gender are a combination of many influences—cultural, political, ethnic, familial, social, and religious. Social interaction is based on these often illogical roles—males in a moment of emotional vulnerability, and females in roles of anger, power, or violence are not considered “normal.”
