This chapter will cover several key roles and needs that you must fill in order to advance your company along the Data Governance Maturity Model.
The importance of executive involvement. Employees will not respond to a quality initiative unless executives ensure they are measured on their participation and cooperation. Executives also possess the budget control necessary to create and maintain data quality and data governance initiatives.
The need to create buy-in from employees across the organization. Everyone, from call-center employees to sales representatives, needs to understand the value of data and their role in keeping it fit for use.
The critical role of data stewards. These individuals are the Renaissance Men and Women of your organization. They understand the business users’ needs and the IT staff concerns, and they form the bridge linking the two parts of the organization in a constructive way.
