Some successful design firms create terrible work; conversely, many great designers run studios that hardly break even. The reason? Design studios are businesses. Those who operate them as such are more apt to succeed than those who treat their companies as an extension of self. You can love what you do, create good work, and be profitable, but if you can’t manage client interactions effectively, you’ll most likely fail.
