Working with Reference Photos
You’ll be working on the castle project with reference photos from many different sources, with a range of resolutions. The photo of St. Vitus Cathedral was used as an inspiration for the demonstration castle, so reopen St_Vitus.jpg in the Chapter 5 DVD materials. This is a low-resolution shot taken with an older digital camera, as you’ll notice when you crop in on the tower.
Duplicate the Blue channel, and create a high-contrast matte to separate the building and the sky. Invert the channel, load the selection for the building, and extract the upper-left tower for use on the front towers of the castle.
