Glossary of Key Terms

Action What one character is doing to another character. An action should be expressed as a playable verb: something that an actor can play for several minutes. It should be an active and easy to understand verb: something we would use in everyday conversation.

Asymmetrical composition The characters’ positions do not form a symmetrical pattern but may still find balance through angles, variety, and relative weight. Asymmetrical compositions tend to be more dynamic and less formal; if unbalanced, an asymmetrical composition may suggest disorder or chaos.
