THE STAGE MANAGER’S ROLE IN THE PRODUCTION

The stage manager is theatre’s greatest gift to the director. A director who works with a good stage manager never wishes to work without one again. A good stage manager significantly increases the director’s ability to be creative by freeing him or her to focus solely on those aspects of the production. Ironically, many directors do not know how to make the best use of their stage manager and, thus, lose many of the benefits. To fully realize what the stage manager can contribute to the director’s work, it is necessary to understand the stage manager’s functions.
