PURPOSE OF AUDITIONS

The audition process should be considered differently from the actual selection of the actors. The director and the actors do not see the auditions from the same perspective. For the director, the purpose of the audition is to view each actor in the talent pool to determine who is most suitable for each role; it is the start of the director’s interaction with the actors. For the actors, it is an opportunity to demonstrate to the director why they are the best choice for the play. These two groups have decidedly different objectives.
