Festivals are competitive. The top tier festivals are extremely hard to get into, there is a saying that it’s harder to get into Sundance than it is Harvard. I don’t know whether that is true but it feels like it.
Know this, be aware of this because it can be an expensive process and a little disheartening, especially after all the hard work of making the film. The good news is that there are so many more documentaries that are being made well, which means there’s more of an appetite for documentaries being recognized as being “films” and that audiences care about them.
