Computer Requirements

If you intend to undertake all your own post-production work—in other words prepare your images for final viewing—you’ll need a high-specification computer system. This is because digital image files are large (and getting larger), are often very complex, and require accurate rendering and powerful (memory-hungry) software to edit them.

Image editing, as we’ll see, is the primary function for computers in photography, but other key software applications are for downloading, browsing, databases, printing, slide shows, scanning, archiving onto CDs, DVDs, or tape, and access to the Internet, including sending images to other computers.
