Compliance and Reconciliation in Linear Projects

Introduction

In the early years when infrastructural development projects were ushered in, the resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) of displaced populations and protection of environment, though important, was often neglected both in the urban and rural areas. Until recently, a more or less residual approach was followed in dealing with such populations. Minimum cash assistance and help for a limited period of time in the transition was the only help promised to the project affected persons (PAPs).
