Introduction

The concept of resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) for project-affected population is relatively new to India, but has gained currency since the 1990s, after the protest by the affected population in Sardar Srovar Project became more visible in the media. Currently, even private sector enterprises have included in their agenda, as corporate social responsibility, to resettle and rehabilitate land owners after purchasing their lands.
