It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Many readers of this book and one of its authors are older than the software industry, in the sense that “software” consists of stored programs that operate on digital computers.
The phrase “software industry” implies more than just methods for creating computer programs. To be considered a software industry, these criteria should be present:
- The industry produces marketable products.
- The industry contains companies that produce those marketable products.
- The people who create the marketable products are compensated for their work.
- There are sufficient clients for the marketable products to generate profits.
- There are sufficient clients for open-source products to be sustained. ...
