13. GET A GRIP

ONE OF THE most popular accessories for portrait photographers is a vertical grip, and for good reason: it helps eliminate the potential for camera shake from hand-held shots that adversely affect your image sharpness. A vertical grip allows the photographer to keep his right hand in the same position regardless of the orientation of the image (Figure 13.1). Without a vertical grip, most photographers hold the camera with their right hand on top, and rest the weight of the camera in their left, more stabilized hand (Figure 13.2).
