28. BLURRING MOTION
AT FIRST IT may seem counterintuitive to want to blur the subject of a photograph, but it’s an effective method of illustrating motion. Still photographs by their nature don’t show movement, but with the right type of blur, a subject’s speed and direction can be illustrated in a dynamic visual manner.
Once you’ve decided to use a blur technique, the next choice is whether to let the subject move across the frame of the camera or to move the camera with the subject.
