33. EXPOSURE COMPENSATION

WHEN USING ANY of the auto exposure modes (P-Program, A-Aperture Priority, S-Shutter Priority), it’s the camera that’s in control of the brightness of your image. You may have some control over the exposure settings, but it’s the camera that’s reading the light and determining the brightness of the final image. The light meter in all cameras is calibrated so that all images achieve an average brightness of 18% gray. This is halfway between pure black and pure white.
