41. WORKING WITH A TRIPOD
TRIPODS HAVE BEEN called the photographer’s most important accessory. The tripod, or any other support device, has two main purposes: keep the camera still to allow sharp images to be captured, and hold the camera in a position that would be inconvenient or impossible by hand. Modern image stabilization devices in cameras and lenses have cut down on the need for tripods in marginal lighting situations, but tripods are still useful.
The photographic world can be split into two scenarios: tripod situations and handheld situations. Many photographers resist the idea of becoming a “tripod photographer.”
