BLACK-AND-WHITE PHOTOS OFTEN suggest a classic feel, but this visual interpretation is much more than just a vintage look to apply to a photo. By removing the distractions of color, you can focus more on the interplay between light and shadow. The monochromatic approach can be very effective for a range of subject matter (Figure 52.1). A black-and-white treatment can be applied in many apps in basic and nuanced ways. There are also apps that specialize entirely in black-and-white looks.
