CHAPTER 17
SOCIAL EXPERTNESS AT WORK
No matter what accomplishments you make, somebody helps you.—Althea Gibson
Social expertness extends your emotional intelligence to develop relationships with others. The definition of social expertness is the ability to build genuine relationships and bonds and to express caring, concern, and conflict in healthy ways. Once you have a firm understanding of yourself (self-awareness), know when and how to control your emotional reaction for the desired outcome (self-control), and can be empathetic about another person's viewpoint (empathy), then you are perfectly positioned to create social bonds, collaborate with others, and resolve conflicts with others (social expertness).
