A heavyweight on the global scene

Abstract

Forty years after the launch of its “Reform and Opening” policy, China is one of the top global powers, with increasing soft power and geopolitical influence, second only to the United States on the economic front. Since the 1980s, China has strategically enhanced its economic performance, deepened its integration in international markets, and expanded its technology and innovation capabilities. China has spearheaded many changes to both the global economic and political landscape, turning it into a genuine heavyweight among both emerging and developed economies.
