Solution polymerization refers to a kind of polymerization method in which the monomer, initiator, and resulting polymer are all soluble in the non-reactive solvent or non-reactive solvent blend. Solution polymerization is common with polymers in which the presence of a solvent is desired, such as varnishes or adhesives.

In the case of free-radical polymerization, the rate of the reaction is directly proportional to the monomer concentration.
