The capital investment decision combines many aspects of business, economics, finance, and accounting, along with the organization’s strategy. Chapter 2 introduced financial statements and cash flows, which provide the basic information necessary for financial evaluation. Chapters 3 and 6 discussed financial performance metrics and strategic financial planning, respectively. Chapter 7 provided the fundamental tool, the time value of money (TVM), which is necessary to value future cash flows. Building on these topics, this chapter advances the discussion on evaluating corporate investment decisions by examining the capital investment program and introducing evaluation techniques.
