Sam Adams Sr. had founded III-Tech almost 15 years ago when he was 55 and newly retired from the federal government. He’d always wanted to have his own company, so the day he was eligible to leave Uncle Sam’s employ, he took his money and ran. He tinkered around at several different projects for a while, until one day he saw his three-year-old grandson, Sam Adams III, playing with an electronic toy that spoke words and showed pictures. Sam III seemed mesmerized, repeating the words when he saw the pictures and before the speaker blurted out the answer. The faster Sam III hit the buttons, the quicker the images came up. A competitive child, Sam III relished speeding up the process.
