Chapter 11:Back in the Bushes
The first appointment J.C. had after he returned from Rehoboth was with Jane Smithfield — the top-notch software engineer and COO who had her hands on the pulse, if not the throat, of III-Tech, as Sam Adams had put it. When J.C. entered her corner office, he noticed how sterile it was — virtually nothing on the walls except her Stanford and MIT diplomas on a side wall, barely visible. She had a few pictures of family — parents, children, and what looked like grandparents — all in small frames on her credenza. Her desk had been cleared of any clutter. The place could have been a clinical examination room in a hospital, J.C. thought, as Jane motioned him to sit in the straight-backed chair that faced her desk.
