Chapter 18:Reading the Compass in the Woods

J.C. had been working with Jane Smithfield, the prospective CEO of III-Tech, for several months. She had absorbed her 360 evaluation and chosen to work on her first area — better internal communications. When J.C. arrived for his now twice-a-month, one- to two-hour session, he sat in Jane’s office with the chart they had laid out several months ago to do a pre-evaluation of her goal. She had written in red her actual accomplishments. But before they went through the chart, J.C. asked her how she felt.

“Different — in a little better way. I’m more in touch with what’s really going on in the company. I think the walking around — knowing I have to speak to two people a day — helped prime the pump.”
