Consider this: if people believe that they have a hand in creating something (co-invention), there is a much greater likelihood that they co-own it. Co-ownership of a strategy heightens the levels of engagement. An employee’s feeling that they have some form of input into decision making in their departments (whether or not they actually do) ranks as the fourth highest driver of engagement.71 If you can harness this sense of co-invention to create co-ownership with your people, you will increase levels of engagement and, by extension, profitability.
