Appendix AThe Detailed Planning Model

In Chapters 8, 9, and 11 we explored a six-step model for developing a detailed project plan. The example for this model, the home landscape project, was spread over these three chapters. To make it easier to see the steps of planning, the home landscape project example is repeated here, beginning with the detailed planning model in Figure A.1 and following the stages through to completion (Figures A.2 through A.6).

The flowchart depicts a six-step model of a “detailed planning model.” The model starts from “project definition,” followed by “project rules,” “scope and deliverables,” “preplanning,” and interconnected “six steps.” The different steps involved in the project plan are “preplanning: risk management,” “Step 1: Develop a work breakdown structure,” “Step 2: Sequence the tasks,” “Step 3: Estimate the work packages,” “Step 4: Calculate an initial schedule,” “Step 5: Assign and level resources,” and “Step 6: Develop budget.” Project plan includes all project tasks, Schedule, Responsibilities, Budget, and Resource forecast.

FIGURE A.3 Step Four: Calculate an initial schedule.

The figure depicts “Gantt chart with resource spreadsheet for home landscape project.” The eight columns depicts ID, task name, labor, resource names, June 15, June 22, June 29, July 6, and July 13 depicting schedule information. The different legends used in week column are critical, noncritical, float, and summary.
