Chapter 12. Team-Spirit Key #1: Clear Roles and Responsibilities

Every team member must know exactly what her specific job-related role and responsibilities are and what is expected from her. She should also know the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of every other team member. When all of your team members have gained this knowledge, they are on their way to developing the first key of team spirit. I have witnessed many teams where the team members are not aware of exactly what the other team members do. It is quite difficult to get these teams to a participative or autonomous level. In fact, the lack of any of the five keys to team spirit is a barrier to developing high-performing teams.
