Chapter 7. Forms and Ratings
Performance-appraisal forms come in numerous formats, ranging from all essays to total reliance on numerical or descriptive ratings. Some try to cover too much; others err on the side of extreme brevity. Room for employee input varies from nothing to space equal to that of the appraiser. The ideal form combines descriptive terms requiring supporting comments with ample space for employees to comment on their manager’s evaluation.
It behooves you to be aware of the overall purpose and multiple uses of evaluation forms, recognize various rating terminology, and know some of the factors that are typically evaluated.
