Taking Manual Control

To truly take control of your images and effectively introduce off-camera flash, it’s good practice to switch to full manual control. That way, you can set the desired aperture and shutter speed on the camera to give the right effect, and then dial in the power of your flashes to match.

This will allow a real understanding of what’s going on, and once your lights are set up then every exposure will be the same. First, put your camera into manual mode either via a dial or its menu system. You are then at liberty to adjust the exposure by changing the aperture of the lens or shutter speed.
